Welcome to the Fox Valley
Newcomer Project Community Map!

The data used to create this map was gathered from January-May 2025. This map shows the organizations and services in the Fox Valley which support immigrants and refugees as they resettle in the area.

Each sector shows what is available and reflects the perspectives of Newcomers as well as organizations.

A "Newcomer" is a person or family who has moved to the Fox Valley or the United States in the past 5-10 years and is learning and adjusting to the main languages and cultures of our region.

Newcomer Perspective
of the Employment Sector

Employers could be better equipped to employ, retain, and promote people who are learning English with language support and benefits. We need to be given an opportunity to work in jobs that match our areas of expertise and international experience.

Opportunities to take English classes at work remains an unmet need. From the perspectives of employers and Newcomers alike, language is often named as a primary barrier to safe and successful employment. Logistical difficulties with shift timing and consistent participation from employees have prevented previous collaborations between our literacy organizations and employers from becoming long-term programs.
